How it works

  1. Type your own numbers. No tickers, no prices pulled from anywhere. You enter the share price and dividend you see at your broker.
  2. Everything runs on your device. The math happens in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or saved.
  3. Every formula is explained. Each calculator shows the formula and a worked example with the same numbers you see on screen.

Dividend basics

How are dividends calculated?

A company declares a dividend per share, such as $0.50 a quarter. You receive that amount for every share you own on the record date. 200 shares × $0.50 = $100 for that payment, or $400 over a year of four payments.

What is the ex-dividend date?

It is the first day a new buyer does not get the next dividend. To be paid, you need to buy before the ex-date. In the US, since T+1 settlement started in May 2024, the ex-date and the record date are the same day.

What is a good dividend yield?

There is no single answer. Broad US stock indexes have yielded under 2% in recent years, many established dividend payers yield 2% to 5%, and yields far above that often mean the market doubts the dividend will last. A lower yield that grows can end up paying more over time.

Do you store the numbers I enter?

No. Every calculation runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere. There are no accounts. Reloading the page puts the starting numbers back.
